Ortho-K
We are very proud to say that Nu-Sight are the only opticians in the Aylesbury area to specialise in this innovative eye care solution. Orthokeratology, more commonly referred to as Ortho-K, is a non-surgical overnight treatment that can lead to improved eyesight during the following day. This treatment is completed using specially designed rigid gas-permeable lenses which are worn during the night whilst you sleep.
They are primarily used for those who suffer with short-sightedness. However, they can be used for long-sightedness as well as astigmatism. This treatment can be an effective alternative to surgery, although it might not be right for everyone. During your consultation we will thoroughly examine your vision and check the curvature of your eye before prescribing these lenses to you. If we do not feel that they will work successfully for you, we will discuss alternative eye care solutions with you that may be more effective.
How Does it Work?
The first step of the treatment is to map out your cornea. This is done using a topographer and is a quick and painless procedure that will be completed by your optometrist. These measurements will allow us to design Ortho-K lenses that are specific to your eyes. This will also ensure that they will fit and be able to flatten the cornea and correct any refractive errors.
It may take up to 2 weeks for gradual improvement of your eyesight to be noticeable. This is why once you have received your lenses, we will invite you in for a series of appointments to enable us to check your progress. This is until full correction is achieved. Your optometrist will also be there to explain how to use and take of them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really improve my vision overnight?
Yes. They are worn overnight and take effect whilst you sleep. Simply remove the lens each morning and you should see an improvement with your vision.
Will I be able to see during the night?
As these lenses are clear, you will be able to see normally during the night and when you wake up in the morning to make that cup of coffee!
How quickly does it work?
The Ortho-K lenses should start to take effect after the first night of use. However, it may take a couple of weeks for your daytime sight to be ‘treated’ and for you to no longer be reliant on contact lenses or glasses.
Is Ortho-K safe?
The effects of Ortho-K are temporary meaning that there are little risks involved. However, because they are left in the eyes overnight it is crucial to clean them meticulously and store them properly. Doing this will reduce the risk of infection and is particularly important in children and adolescents.
